A B O U T

For as long as she can remember, Jessica Leigh has always romanticised her life. Growing up with a deep adoration of art, music and poetry Leigh learned how to paint her own world in ways worth reflecting upon artistically. This knack for casting experiences in a rosy, golden hue adds a unique touch to her songwriting and sound.

The Nelson-born and now Wellington-based Leigh began writing and producing music at the age of 11, and has found her home in pop music - often championing a chorus of 80’s inspired synths, warm guitars and anthemic drums. Her songs are inspired by the technicolour emotional spectrum of youth, and the storytelling within them often depicts vibrant, visceral coming-of-age narratives - reflecting on themes such as young love, friendship, growing pains and everything in between.

“I find there is unparalleled beauty in youth. Life is so rich when you’re young and everything and everybody lasts forever. I can’t think of anything more romantic than that.”

Leigh won a regional songwriting competition in 2019 and began releasing music shortly after. She released her debut EP 17 in 2020 - which accrued over 300,000 streams - and followed it up with a sophomore EP summerland in 2021. The lead single from summerland - SUMMER ROYALTY - gained massive success - being selected for major Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists, as well as being picked up for RNZ's revered Introducing segment.
